Christus Factus Est

Here is a word-for-word translation for the Bruckner. Please write it into your score and be prepared to tell me the literal meaning of the words for Thursday. I’ve also included the poetic translation below, which is very similar to the alternate text in your score.

Also a Retreat Reminder: You will need either a valid passport or a copy of your birth certificate + a valid government issued ID. You should get started on that asap!

Christus factus     est   pro nobis

Christ         made      was    for     us

obediens usque ad mortem

obedient      even    to   death

mortem   autem   crucis

death          even         of cross

Propter   quod    et     Deus     exaltavit       illum

For             which   also    God       has exalted        him

et     dedit    illi    nomen

and   given    him    name

quod   est   super   omne   nomen

which    is     above     every        name

Poetic Translation:

Christ was made obedient for us

even unto death,

even the death of the cross.

Therefore God also has exalted him,

and given him a name

which is above every name.
